Raw Hair Do’s & Don’ts

  DO’S

  1. Regular Co-Washing: Encourage regular co-washing (conditioner wash) to keep the raw Burmese curly hair hydrated and defined.

  2. Use Mild, Sulfate-Free Products: Recommend the use of mild, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners designed for curly hair to maintain its natural moisture and prevent damage.

  3. Detangle with Care: Suggest gentle detangling using a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush, starting from the tips and working your way up to prevent tangling and minimize breakage.

  4. Air Dry or Low Heat: Advise air-drying the hair whenever possible to preserve the natural curl pattern. If heat is necessary, recommend using a diffuser attachment on a low heat setting.

  5. Apply Leave-In Conditioner: Encourage the use of leave-in conditioners or curl-enhancing products to keep the hair moisturized and maintain the definition of the curls.

  6. Trim Regularly: Recommend trimming the ends of the hair regularly to eliminate split ends and maintain a healthy appearance.

  7. Use Silk/Satin Accessories: Suggest using silk or satin pillowcases, scarves, and hair ties to reduce friction and minimize frizz while sleeping.

Don'ts:

  1. Avoid Sulfates: Discourage the use of shampoos or hair products containing sulfates, as they can strip the hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and damage.

  2. Limit Heat Styling: Advise against excessive use of heat styling tools, as it can result in dryness, loss of curl pattern, and potential damage to the hair.

  3. Avoid Rough Towel Drying: Caution against vigorously rubbing or wringing the hair with a towel after washing, as it can lead to frizz and damage. Instead, recommend patting the hair gently to remove excess water.

  4. No Brushing on Dry Hair: Advise against brushing or combing the hair when it's dry, as this can disrupt the curl pattern and create frizz. Detangling when wet with a wide-tooth comb is preferable.

  5. Say No to Tight Hairstyles: Discourage tight hairstyles or ponytails that can pull on the hair, potentially causing breakage and damage.

  6. Avoid Over-Manipulation: Caution against excessive touching or manipulation of the hair, as it can lead to frizz and damage over time.

  7. Protect from Sun and Harsh Chemicals: Warn against prolonged exposure to sunlight, chlorine, or harsh chemicals without protection, as these factors can harm the hair.

  8. Minimize Coloring: Suggest minimizing the use of coloring or chemical treatments on raw Burmese curly hair, as it can alter the natural texture and quality.
